Immigrant America is a volunteer organization established and run by high school and middle school students, dedicated to assisting immigrants in their efforts to become United States citizens. Founded by Austin Leehealey in 2016, the project started off as a simple high school club, with volunteers helping every week at local citizenship classes. Partnered with the Asian American Senior Citizen Service Center (AASCSC) since 2016, Immigrant America volunteers provide one-on-one English pronunciation tutoring on the American history and government curriculum, mock citizenship interviews, and practice tests to prepare immigrant students for their citizenship exams. However, this was only the beginning. In 2018, Austin applied for and was awarded a Dragon Kim Foundation Fellowship grant, which allows Immigrant America to expand their reach of impact to not only the Asian American immigrant community, but also the Spanish immigrant community as well.
Immigrant America's mission now is to recruit more high school and middle school volunteers to come and help us in our efforts to educated the immigrant population.
